We live in a time where everyone - many HiFi buffs included - seem to want their music digitally. As we all know, MP3 is a very flexible and widely supported format, but there are some downsides; the format is 'lossy', so audio data is being thrown away. For some (ourselves included), this is unacceptable! We have the CD, and want a pure CD quality copy for playback in any of our many digital music players. Enter FLAC , or Free Lossless Audio Codec. It provides a true CD quality image, but shaves up to 40% off the size of storing it compared to an uncompressed file.
