The name the Listening Post was established by Paul Quilter 30 years ago in Tokoroa. Paul established the Christchurch business with a small High Street store with a large showroom coming some years later at 339 Moorhouse ave. After a number of years as the manager, Crighton purchased the business in 2004. In 2007 the shop was moved to it's current location at 19 Mandeville Street in Riccarton.

The Wellington store started 30 years ago as Sound Expression and was purchased by Crighton in February 2014. Since then it has been thoroughly renovated and brought to the modern standard it is at today.
